Shahira Fahmy is an Egyptian actress who was spotted by renowned director Hong Sang Soo, and made her acting debut in his film "Claire's Camera" alongside Isabelle Huppert.
The film premiered at the 70th Cannes Film Festival in 2017 and was released in 2018, marking Fahmy's first foray into the world of acting.
She quickly followed up with her second role in "Yomeddine", a film by A.B. Shawky that was nominated for the Palm D'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018 and was also Egypt's submission to the 91st Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
In addition to her film work, Fahmy has also appeared in numerous successful television series in the Middle East and starred in the film "Sheikh Jackson" by Amr Salama, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2017.
Born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, Fahmy received an intensive acting training at the Wooster Group Theatre in New York and the American Repertory Theatre at Harvard University from 2014 to 2016.
During her time at Harvard, Fahmy was a three-time recipient of Harvard's post-doc Fellowships for her groundbreaking and award-winning architectural work, which was recognized by the Graduate School of Design, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and Harvard Law School in 2016.
Fahmy has built projects in the Middle East, London, and Europe, and has been hailed by Phaidon as one of the "Architects building the Arab Future" in 2011.
She has also served as a visiting professor at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture in New York.
Fluent in Arabic, French, and English, Fahmy splits her time between New York, Paris, and Cairo.
