Biography

Shah Rukh Khan, also known as SRK, is a renowned Indian Bollywood movie star, movie producer, magazine model, showman, public speaker, author, philanthropist, and television host/personality who has made a significant impact in the Hindi film industry.

Born in 1965, Khan began his on-camera acting career in 1987, at the tender age of 21, by guest starring in various Indian serial drama soap opera TV shows and appearing in numerous television commercials and brand advertisements for products. He studied theatre arts and drama during his second year of college, where he participated in numerous school plays.

Khan's early life was marked by the untimely deaths of his parents, which left him heartbroken in Delhi. He decided to pursue a full-time acting career and relocated to Mumbai to start afresh, hoping to overcome the dejecting death of his parents and find solace in acting.

After recuperating from a career-ending sports injury, Khan landed his breakout role in the 1992 film "Deewana," which won him the first of 13 Filmfare awards. He continued to star in blockbuster movies throughout the 2000s, establishing himself as a bankable and versatile movie star in the early-to-mid 2010s.

Referred to as the "Baadshah of Bollywood" and "King Khan," Khan has appeared in over 100 films and has earned numerous accolades, including 14 Filmfare Awards. He has been awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India, as well as the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and Legion of Honour by the Government of France.

Khan has a significant following in Asia and the Indian diaspora worldwide, and is often described as one of the most successful film stars in the world. Many of his films depict and portray Indian national identity, Indian patriotism, and connections with diaspora communities, or gender, racial, social, and religious differences and grievances.

In his personal life, Khan is married to his wife and resides in the affluent suburbs of Bandra, Mumbai, India, with his children. He has been a brand ambassador for TAG Heuer in India since 2003 and is close friends with fellow actor Amir Khan.
