Serena Dykman is a multifaceted filmmaker who has made a name for herself in the industry through her diverse and award-winning body of work. As a graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts Film and Television program, she has honed her skills in a range of genres, including comedy, drama, and documentary.
Throughout her career, Serena has garnered over 40 awards in the past four years, a testament to her dedication and talent. Her films have been selected in over 80 film festivals worldwide, including the prestigious Cannes Film Festival and Oscar-qualifying events. One of her most popular films, WELCOME, a short documentary about U.S. immigration, has accumulated over a million views online.
WELCOME has also received widespread recognition, taking home a 2020 Webby Award and ranking in the top 10% of projects submitted from around the world, out of nearly 13,000 entries. This achievement is a testament to Serena's ability to craft compelling and impactful stories.
Born in Paris and raised between London, Brussels, and New York, Serena is a "third-culture kid" who has been shaped by her experiences living in different cultures. This exposure has informed much of her work, which often explores themes of travel, cross-cultural issues, and social justice.
Serena's first feature film, NANA, is a trans-generational documentary about her grandmother, Maryla Michalowski-Dyamant, an Auschwitz survivor and activist for tolerance. The film has been widely acclaimed, winning numerous awards and being chosen by the European Commission and European Jewish Congress to be presented on Holocaust Memorial Day 2018. Serena participated in a discussion on the future of Holocaust education with the First Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans and the world-renowned historian and author Sir Simon Schama.
NANA was released theatrically in 2018 and is now available on iTunes, Amazon, and YouTube. Serena's work has also earned her recognition from Women eNews, who named her one of the "21 leaders in the 21st century" in May 2018, alongside Abigail Disney, Amy Ferris, and other esteemed recipients.
In addition to her existing projects, Serena is currently developing and attached to several scripted and unscripted projects, solidifying her position as a talented and innovative filmmaker.
