Sekou Laidlow is a multifaceted artist, blending his passion for craft, creativity, and commitment to bring depth and nuance to his character portrayals. Born in Baltimore, he is driven by the transformative power of storytelling and is drawn to roles that require a complex emotional journey and characters who overcome extraordinary challenges.
He will appear as Bobby Purcell in the FOX series The Resident on November 8th, 2022, and will have recurring roles in the NBC series Ordinary Joe, ABC's Women of the Movement, and BET+'s Kingdom Business. He will also star in the Warner Brothers feature Black Adam alongside Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson.
Laidlow has had notable roles in the romantic comedy Better Off Single and the drama The Mend, and was a supporting lead in the comedic web series What's Your Emergency?. On Broadway, he has been directed by Joe Montello in Airline Highway and Boys in the Band, and originated the role of Homer in Suzan Lori Parks' epic Father Comes Home from the Wars, which won the Pulitzer Prize and the Kennedy Prize for Drama.
Laidlow was a standout student at Juilliard, where he was the first student to perform a monologue at the school's commencement ceremony, in front of honorary degree recipients James Earl Jones, Athol Fugard, and Nancy Wilson. He has also produced a self-titled podcast, Let Me Introduce Myself, which features intimate conversations with men about their healing journeys and wildest dreams.
In addition to his artistic pursuits, Laidlow serves on the Board of Directors of Beautiful Ventures, a creative start-up focused on narrative change and social entrepreneurship. He holds a Master's degree in Divinity from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, where he was a Robert W. Woodruff Scholar.
