Scott Gracheff is a multi-Emmy Award-winning producer and director with a storied career spanning decades in the film and television production industry. Hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area, Gracheff's passion for filmmaking was ignited at a young age, and he still proudly possesses his cherished Chinon 200/8XL Super 8mm camera, which remains functional to this day.
Gracheff's extensive experience in documentary production includes the critically acclaimed "The Rugby Player," which garnered numerous festival awards, including the HBO Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. This poignant film tells the heart-wrenching story of Mark Bingham, one of the passengers on Flight 93 on 9/11, and his mother, Alice Hoagland, a former United flight attendant.
Additionally, Gracheff's documentary "Soldados" aired alongside Ken Burns' landmark PBS series "The War," a comprehensive exploration of World War II. This documentary sheds light on the often-overlooked experiences of Latino WWII soldiers and received a 2008 Emmy Award nomination. Furthermore, "Dave Tatsuno: Movies and Memories" uncovers the remarkable story of a man who smuggled his 8mm film camera into a Japanese internment camp and secretly filmed his family's 3-year life behind barbed wire.
Gracheff's body of work also includes "Return to the Valley," which delves into the Japanese American experience after World War II and won a 2004 Emmy Award. His documentary "Out In The Night" examines the disturbing incident where four young women were violently threatened on the street, defended themselves, and were subsequently convicted in the court and media as a 'gang of killer lesbians.' This powerful film won numerous festival jury and audience awards and was featured on the PBS series P.O.V.
As the Executive Producer and Head of Production for the creative production company, The Diamond Bros, Gracheff combines artistic vision with technological expertise to achieve the ultimate goal of storytelling. He firmly believes that the strength of a team is paramount and values the collaborative process above all else.
