Biography

Copti, a Palestinian filmmaker of notable acclaim, was born and raised in the city of Yafa. His professional journey in the film industry began with a successful stint as a mechanical engineer, which laid the foundation for his future endeavors in the realm of cinematic storytelling. Copti's most notable achievement to date is his first full-length feature film, "Ajami", which premiered at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 2009 and went on to win the Camera d'Or Special Mention.

"Ajami" did not stop there, as it also received an Oscar nomination in the Best Foreign Film category at the 82nd Academy Awards, further solidifying Copti's reputation as a talented and innovative filmmaker. The film's success did not go unnoticed, as it won over 15 awards worldwide, a testament to its universal appeal and Copti's exceptional storytelling abilities.

In addition to his work in feature films, Copti has also explored the realms of fiction, documentary, and experimental short films, showcasing his versatility and range as a filmmaker. His expertise has been recognized through his participation in various film festivals, including the Tribeca Film Festival and the Thessaloniki Film Festival, where he served as a member of the jury in 2010.

Copti's dedication to promoting human rights through film was evident when he took on the role of President of the Human Rights Award at the Istanbul International Film Festival in 2011. He was also part of the team that launched the Doha Tribeca Film Festival and the Doha Film Institute (DFI),serving as the head of the DFI's education department until November 2011.

Currently, Copti is developing his next feature film project, a testament to his unwavering passion for storytelling and his commitment to pushing the boundaries of the film industry.
