Satyajit Ray, a renowned filmmaker, was born in the vibrant city of Calcutta, India, on May 2, 1921. His father, the illustrious Sukumar Ray, was a celebrated poet and writer in the realm of Bengali literature, leaving an indelible mark on the history of Bengali literary tradition.

Following his academic pursuits, Ray received his degree in science and economics from the prestigious Calcutta University in 1940.
