Biography

Satish Chandra Kaushik was a renowned Indian actor, comedian, director, producer, and screenwriter. He received formal education from Kirori Mal College, Delhi, and honed his craft at the National School of Drama, Delhi, and the Film and Television Institute, Pune.

Throughout his illustrious career, Kaushik was involved in over 100 films and shows. One of his most notable theatre roles was in the Hindi adaptation of Arthur Miller's play Death of a Salesman, titled Salesman Ramlal.

Kaushik's foray into the film industry was marked by his iconic role in the superhero film Mr. India (1987). His humorous portrayal of a cook and the memorable dialogue "Calendar, khaana do" became a household phrase in the 1990s.

Some of his most notable films include Ram Lakhan (1989),Saajan Chale Sasural (1996),Deewana Mastana (1997),Brick Lane (2007),Udta Punjab (2016),and Kaagaz (2021).

Kaushik's directorial debut was The Queen of Beauty and the King of Thieves (1993),which unfortunately did not fare well at the box office. However, his subsequent directorial ventures, including Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain (1999),Prem (1995),In Your Name (2003),Vaada (2004),and Teree Sang: A Kidult Love Story (2009),were more successful.

Kaushik's impressive performances earned him several awards, including the Best Comic Actor award at the Filmfare Awards for his roles in Ram Lakhan and Saajan Chale Sasural in 1990 and 1997, respectively. He also won the Best Supporting Actor Award at the Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival for his role in Kaagaz.

Tragically, Kaushik passed away on March 9, 2023, just days after celebrating Holi with his friends, due to cardiac arrest.
