Sameer Kohli is a multifaceted individual with a background in engineering and a passion for the media world.
Born in Delhi, Kohli initially dreamed of becoming a physicist, with a focus on quantum mechanics or space sciences. However, he instead pursued a career in engineering, graduating from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi.
Kohli's early career saw him working in a techno-managerial position for three years before an accident led him to explore new opportunities in the media industry.
He began his new career path by working with Mumbai-based Romesh Films, handling TV shows and turning around a company-owned shooting floor in north India.
In 1999, Kohli co-founded Red Ice Films, which has since become one of the top and multi-awarded production companies in India, specializing in television commercials.
Between 2001 and 2006, Kohli wrote three full-length Hindi features, for which he was also an associate director. One of these films, Yahaan, earned him a Screen Awards nomination in the writing category.
Kohli's independent direction of TV commercials began in 2006, and he has since directed over 40 commercials. He has also produced over 200 projects, scripted four released feature films, and written and produced an award-winning short film on women safety in India.
In addition to his work in the film industry, Kohli has contributed humor pieces to an English quarterly print magazine for several years and co-authored a book titled Dark & Darker, a compilation of short stories and poetry on the dark side of human behavior.
Kohli is currently based in Mumbai, where he is working on a full-length feature, a web-series, and consulting with a US-Asia media group on creative strategy for an international cross-media campaign.
