Sam Crane's academic and artistic journey began at Oxford University, where he honed his skills before further refining them at the prestigious London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA). During his time at LAMDA, Crane won the esteemed Nicholas Hytner Award, a testament to his exceptional talent.
Crane's impressive stage career has seen him take on a wide range of iconic roles. One of his most notable performances was as Farinelli in Claire van Kampen's "Farinelli and the King", where he shared the stage with the renowned Mark Rylance at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse (Shakespeare's Globe). This production was later transferred to the Duke of York's Theatre and then to the Belasco Theatre on Broadway, with Crane reprising his role as Farinelli.
In addition to his work on "Farinelli and the King", Crane has also delivered standout performances in other productions. One such example is his portrayal of Winston Smith in Headlong's production of George Orwell's "1984" in the West End.
Crane's notable stage work also includes an acclaimed production of Alexi Kaye Campbell's "Sunset at the Villa Thalia", which premiered in London at the National Theatre of Great Britain in May 2016. Directed by Simon Godwin, the production boasted a talented cast featuring Ben Miles, Elizabeth McGovern, Pippa Nixon, Christos Callow, Glykeria Dimou, and Eve Polycarpou.
Since October 2022, Crane has been playing the lead role of Harry Potter in Jack Thorne's "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child", based on J.K. Rowling's original story. This production is currently running at the Palace Theatre in London.
