Saba Singh Grewal, professionally known as Saba Azad, is a multi-talented Indian actress, theatre director, singer, and musician. She was culturally exposed to cinema, dance, music, and theatre from a young age. Azad is a trained dancer, proficient in various forms and dance styles, including Jazz, Latin, Odissi, contemporary, and traditional ballet. She has performed in Nepal, England, and Canada, alongside her Odissi Guru, Kiran Sehgal, and Hrithik Roshan.
As a child, Azad began performing with her uncle's theatre group, Jana Natya Manch, and later worked with theatre veterans MK Raina and the late Habib Tanvir. She made her film debut in Ishaan Nair's short film Guroor (2007),which received critical acclaim and was screened at festivals in New York and Florence.
Azad has worked on numerous short films, including Strangers in the Night (2012),Pure-Veg (2016),and Connected (2019). She has also acted in commercials for various brands, such as Kit Kat, Vodafone, Sunsilk, Nescafe, Masterstroke, and Dabur. Before entering the Hindi film industry, she performed in a two-person play directed by Makrand Deshpande, which was staged at Prithvi Theatre.
Azad made her Bollywood debut in Dil Kabaddi (2007),starring alongside Irrfan Khan, Rahul Bose, and Rahul Khanna. In 2010, she founded her theatre group 'The Skins' to direct and produce her first play Lovepuke, an adaptation of Duncan Sarkies' script.
Azad has also appeared in various web series, including Ladies Room (2016),Love Shots (2016),Home Stories (2020),Feels Like Ishq (2021),and Rocket Boys (2022). As a singer-musician, she is a part of the electronic duo band Madboy/Mink, which she co-founded with actor and musician Imaaduddin Shah.
In addition to her acting and music career, Azad has lent her voice to songs in various Hindi films and series, including Dhoom 3 (2013),Shaandaar (2015),Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2015),Main Aur Charles (2015),Karwaan (2018),The Man Who Feels No Pain (2018),and Farzi (2023).
