Ryan Edward Tygh is a talented actor of Irish, English, Italian, German, and Apache Indian descent, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Edward, an Auto Body Specialist, and Donna, a Police Officer. He has a younger sister and credits his family for nurturing his love of the arts. His father, Edward, had a brief career as a recording artist, releasing singles such as "To Be Mine" and "Do What You Wanna" before transitioning to producing, working with notable artists like The Duprees, The Skyliners, and the Original Temptations. Ryan's mother, Donna, was an avid guitar player in her youth.
Ryan's interest in theater was sparked by attending a performance of The Phantom of The Opera, starring Kevin Gray. This led him to pursue a stage career, and he appeared in various productions at Archbishop Carroll High School in Radnor, Pennsylvania, including Arsenic & Old Lace, Godspell, Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and West Side Story. His high school director, Dr. David Brennan, taught him the importance of consistency and giving every performance the same energy, emphasizing that each show comes with a fresh audience.
After high school, Ryan attended Temple University in Philadelphia for less than a year before gaining membership in The Screen Actors Guild and beginning his career. He has since worked on over ninety film and television projects, taking on various roles from production assistant to principal actor. Theatrically, he has worked for major houses in the Philadelphia area, including The Walnut Street, Media, and Montgomery Theatres, as well as Philadelphia's historic Academy of Music.
In the summer of 2017, Ryan shifted his focus to behind-the-camera work, writing, directing, and starring in the short comedic parody "Splat," which spoofs M. Night Shyamalan's blockbuster film Split. He is also writing a biographical feature film, which is expected to be completed by the fall.
