Ryan Nicodemus, alongside his lifelong friend Joshua Fields Millburn, forms half of the influential duo known as The Minimalists, inspiring millions to live more intentionally with less through their website, books, podcast, and documentary film.
Growing up in Lebanon, Ohio, Nicodemus's family struggled financially, much like Millburn's, setting the stage for their later exploration of minimalism. After high school, Nicodemus worked alongside his father at their home improvement business before accepting a position with a local telecommunications company, where he began to climb the corporate ladder.
In 2010, Millburn noticed Nicodemus's growing discontentment with his corporate career and consumer-centric lifestyle, prompting Millburn to suggest incorporating minimalism into his life. Having recently adopted these practices himself, Millburn was confident they would help Nicodemus find happiness and fulfillment.
That December, Nicodemus and Millburn decided to share their stories of how minimalism had transformed their lives, and thus launched their website, The Minimalists.
Between 2010 and 2015, the duo released three books on living intentionally with less: Minimalism: Live a Meaningful Life, Everything That Remains, and Essential: Essays by The Minimalists.
In January 2016, they launched their top-rated podcast, The Minimalists Podcast.
In May 2016, Nicodemus and Millburn released the documentary film, Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things (2015),exploring the benefits of minimalism with professionals and individuals practicing the principles every day.
In April 2017, the duo will embark on a speaking tour, Less Is Now.
