Ryan Patrick Murphy was born on November 9, 1965, in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. His mother, J. Andy Murphy, was a writer and communications worker, while his father worked as a circulation director in the newspaper industry. He has one brother and attended a Catholic school until the eighth grade. Murphy then graduated from Warren Central High School and went on to study journalism at Indiana University Bloomington.
