Russell Friedenberg is a multifaceted filmmaker with a diverse range of credits to his name. He has written and directed three feature films, including the crowd-pleaser Among Ravens, which stars Amy Smart, Will McCormack, and Joshua Leonard.
One of his most notable films is Ibid, which premiered at the South By Southwest festival and was later nominated for the prestigious Cinevision Award at the Munich International Film Festival. Ibid was also the winner of the 2008 Independent Spirit Award.
Friedenberg's other feature film is Wind Walkers, a genre-bending film starring Glen Powell and purchased by Fox. His short film, The Hole Truth, has won numerous awards, including Best Short Comedy at the Atlanta Comedy Film Festival, Nashville Film Festival, Portland Comedy Film Festival, and Sun Valley Film Festival.
In addition to his work in feature films, Friedenberg has also made a name for himself in documentary filmmaking. His award-winning documentary Trudell premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to play over 100 festivals worldwide. It was recently inducted into the National Archive.
Friedenberg has also written and produced several documentaries, including Out of the Blue: A Film about Life and Football for ESPN, and First Circle, a feature documentary about the foster care system in America for Showtime. He wrote and produced Sawtooth, a film starring Adam Beach and Udo Kier, and served as an executive producer on Magic Valley, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2017.
Friedenberg's television credits include Shasta, a TV show that was selected by the Sundance 2017 Episodic Lab and purchased by Amazon. He has also co-written a television pilot, Encounters, for Amazon Studios, a sci-fi thriller set on a Nevada reservation.
Friedenberg is currently directing his original script, The Bullfighter, starring Don Johnson and being produced by Heather Rae and Bob Yari with Wonderhill Productions.
