Biography

Roy Wells Gordon, the third of four sons, was born to John W. Gordon and Nancy Ellen Wells Gordon on October 18, 1884, in the quaint Beaver Village of Pike County, Ohio.

As a young boy, the Gordon family relocated to Portsmouth, Ohio, where Roy spent his formative years, fostering a lifelong passion for the theater and acting.

Roy's early career in the 1910s, 20s, and early 30s saw him take to the stage in various dramas and musicals, showcasing his tenor vocals in Portsmouth, Ohio; Columbus, Ohio; Baltimore, Maryland; Chicago, Illinois; and ultimately, on Broadway in New York City.

As the 1930s drew to a close, Roy made the bold decision to trade the stage for the silver screen, relocating to Los Angeles, California to pursue a career in motion pictures.

For the remainder of his life, Roy would go on to play a wide array of supporting roles in films, often taking on the personas of bankers, businessmen, judges, senior military officers, and other men of authority.

In addition to his film work, Roy also made numerous television appearances throughout his career.

Roy Wells Gordon's life came full circle on July 23, 1972, when he passed away at the age of 87 in the peaceful community of Encino, Los Angeles County, California.
