Notably, Roy holds a First Class Honour degree in Film Directing from the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, as well as a Master's degree in Philosophy, demonstrating his extensive academic background and multifaceted intellectual pursuits.
Prior to establishing his own career, Roy began working in the film industry in 2000, during his university years, under the esteemed guidance of Bill Kong, founder of Edko Films. This prominent production company is responsible for producing numerous blockbuster films, including the critically acclaimed Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero.
Throughout his tenure at Edko Films, Roy worked closely with Bill Kong, focusing primarily on script development, while also serving as a personal assistant and researcher to the renowned director, Ang Lee, who has won numerous Academy Awards and Golden Globes.
