After a brief stint in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys (1985) and Philadelphia Eagles (1986, 1987),I pursued an acting career, which led me to audition for the Toxic Avenger Part 2. Although John Altamura was initially cast as Toxie, I was offered the role of the backup Toxic Avenger to fill in distant shots and perform stunts. This opportunity allowed me to work with the special effects crew and get into the Toxie costume daily, making some great friends along the way.
After about three to four weeks of filming, John Altamura unexpectedly left the set, and I was thrust into the lead role of the film. I had a blast playing Toxie, completing all of John's unfinished scenes, doing the entire voice-over for both movies, and even filming part three in Tokyo, Japan, where Toxie was known as "Doku Doku Monster."
My experience with the Troma Team led to another role as Leon in Basket Case Part 2. Although these roles often hid my face, they were exciting opportunities for me. The aftermath of the Toxic Avenger experience was filled with publicity appearances promoting the release of the films, which included premieres on Broadway in NYC.
After the release of the Toxic Avenger films, I continued pursuing my acting dream in NYC for a few years, working as a bouncer at nightclubs and auditioning for commercials and movie parts. Although I didn't find much success, I did manage to secure some extra work and a few spots on soap operas and TV shows.
Eventually, I decided to leave acting behind and began my journey to become a Physician Assistant in 1991. After graduating with honors from PA school, I started working as a PA, which provided a stable income. Although I was occasionally called back for extra work on shows like The Sopranos, my acting career had largely come to an end.
In 1996, I married Dana and we now have three daughters. We currently reside in North Carolina. I still attend conventions and would be happy to see fans at one of these events. If you're looking for a 2-day to 5-day small role, I might consider returning to acting.
