Biography

Roberto, a multifaceted individual, was born in Brazil, a country where his Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and indigenous Brazilian heritage converged. As a passionate filmmaker, he is deeply committed to telling LGBTQIA+ stories, a cause that resonates deeply with him as a queer latinx man. Positive representation of queer communities is a vital issue that Roberto holds close to his heart, and this passion is reflected in his work.

Roberto's most notable achievement is the creation and direction of three seasons of the anthology series "Sui Generis" (2017-2022),which explores the complexities of queer love in all its forms. The show has garnered international recognition, winning an impressive 15 awards, including Best Director, Best LGBTQIA Series, and Best Representation of Queer Communities. Additionally, Roberto was nominated for the prestigious NZTV Award as Best Director in 2023.

For 20 years, Roberto called Aotearoa, New Zealand his home, before relocating to Sydney, Australia. Currently, he is focused on developing his first feature film, based on his short film "Boyfriend" (2022),which was nominated for the esteemed Iris Prize Award in the UK in 2023. Roberto is also working on other film and TV projects, cementing his status as a talented and dedicated filmmaker.
