Robert M. Yost, a renowned individual, was born to Alice Kern (Yost) and Robert M. Yost, and boasted a sibling in the form of acclaimed writer Dorothy Yost. He received his primary education within the public schools of St. Louis, before proceeding to attend Carthage College in Carthage, Illinois.
As a young professional, Yost embarked on a career as a reporter and writer for the esteemed St. Louis (Missouri) Post-Dispatch. His journalistic endeavors eventually led him to work for the Los Angeles Examiner, Los Angeles Morning Herald, and the prominent Hearst syndicate services.
In the year 1920, Yost's talents were recognized when he was appointed Publicity Director for Fox West Coast Studios. Furthermore, in the early 1930s, he was entrusted with the responsibility of heading the scenario department for Fox.
Notably, Yost's tenure at Fox came to an end shortly after the merger of Fox Film Corporation with Darryl F. Zanuck's Century Pictures.
