Robert Lence has had a profound impact on the world of animation, contributing to some of the most iconic and beloved films in the history of animated features. Over the course of his thirty-year career, he has worn many hats, including Director, Screenwriter, Head of Story, Storyboard Artist, Visual Development Artist, Story Consultant, Lecturer, and Teacher.
Throughout his illustrious career, Robert has had the privilege of working at esteemed studios such as Walt Disney, Pixar, and DreamWorks. His impressive filmography includes a slew of all-time hits, including "Beauty and the Beast," "The Lion King," "Toy Story," "A Bug's Life," and "Shrek." One of his most notable achievements was serving as Co-Head of Story on Pixar's 1995 film "Toy Story," the first ever computer-animated feature film.
Robert's academic background is equally impressive, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He also attended the California Institute of the Arts' highly regarded Character Animation program for two years, where he honed his skills and developed his passion for storytelling.
In addition to his impressive resume, Robert has also served as a member of the CalArts faculty, teaching story and serving as a story consultant. He has also had the opportunity to work overseas, developing stories and screenplays for studios, as well as teaching and guest lecturing in eight different countries, including China, the Czech Republic, England, Italy, Mexico, Russia, South Korea, and Uruguay.
Robert's most recent project was co-writing and co-directing the Russian animated feature "The Snow Queen: Mirrorlands," which was released internationally in 2018. He is also a member of the Writers Guild of America West and has served on the judging committee for the screenwriting awards at the animation industry's Annie Awards.
