Biography

Robert Reiner, the accomplished director, was born in the vibrant city of New York to Estelle Reiner (née Lebost) and the illustrious Carl Reiner, an Emmy-winning actor, comedian, writer, and producer.

As a child, Reiner's father, Carl, was his role model, as he created and starred in the iconic television show The Dick Van Dyke Show. Estelle, his mother, was also an inspiration, as her experience as a singer helped him understand the significance of music in a scene. Reiner often felt pressured to live up to his father's impressive legacy, which included twelve Emmys and numerous prestigious awards.

When Reiner graduated from high school, his parents advised him to participate in Summer Theatre. He subsequently landed an apprenticeship at the Bucks County Playhouse in Pennsylvania and later attended UCLA Film School to further his education.

Reiner's career in the film industry began with a recurring role on the popular television show All in the Family. He then started his directing career with the Oscar-nominated films This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, and The Princess Bride.

In 1987, Reiner founded his own production company, Castle Rock Entertainment, alongside Martin Shafer, Andrew Scheinman, Glenn Padnick, and Alan Horn. Under Castle Rock Entertainment, he directed Oscar-nominated films such as When Harry Met Sally, Misery, and A Few Good Men.

Reiner has credited his former co-star Carroll O'Connor for helping him get into the directing business, as O'Connor showed Reiner the ropes.

As a political activist, Reiner co-founded the American Foundation For Equal Rights, an organization that served as an advisory for same-sex marriage. He has spoken at numerous rallies on various topics, advocating for social change regarding issues such as domestic violence and tobacco use.

Reiner has made cameo appearances on television shows like 30 Rock, The Simpsons, and Hannah Montana, as well as in films like The First Wives Club, Bullets Over Broadway, Primary Colors, and Throw Momma From The Train, among many others.
