Rick Schmidt has been an active filmmaker since the 1970s, and his 26th feature film, "Sticky Wicket", is a testament to his dedication to the craft.

His films have gained recognition globally, with screenings at prestigious film festivals such as Sundance's Dramatic Competition, where he received a Grand Jury Prize nomination, as well as Slamdance, Rotterdam, Berlin International, New Directors/New Films, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and many others.

Schmidt's work has been met with critical acclaim from prominent film critics, and his influence can be seen in the careers of notable filmmakers such as Kevin Smith, Vin Diesel, and Tom DiCillo, who have credited him as an inspiration.

In addition to his filmmaking endeavors, Schmidt is also the author of the highly acclaimed book "Feature Filmmaking at Used Car Prices", which is often referred to as "The Bible" for fledgling filmmakers.

His book "Extreme DV" (Penguin Books, 2004) focuses on the art of digital filmmaking, specifically for those with an improv story to tell.

Since 1995, Schmidt has been running his "Feature Workshops", which have enabled dozens of aspiring filmmakers to bring their first feature film to life.

One of his notable projects is "Chetzemoka's Curse", which has been certified Dogme #10 by the renowned Dogme 95 filmmakers Lars Von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg.

Furthermore, Schmidt's first work of fiction, an historical novel titled "Black President", was published in the UK by Picnic Publishing in 2008.
