Rick Marotta is a renowned American drummer and percussionist, renowned for his versatility and extensive career, having collaborated with numerous leading artists across the music industry.
Born in New York City, Rick taught himself to play drums at the tender age of nineteen, marking the beginning of his illustrious music career. He was an integral part of The Riverboat Soul Band, which released the album "Mess-up" in 1968, showcasing his exceptional skills.
In the early 1970s, Rick spent several years as the drummer for his own group, the short-lived Brethren. During this period, the band released two albums, with the first, self-titled "Brethren", garnering moderate success. The second album, released as the band was disbanding, is now a rare and highly sought-after find.
The Brethren's unique sound, a blend of rock and country with subtle influences from jazz and the legendary Dr. John, set them apart from other bands of the era. Dr. John even wrote the album notes and the song "Loop Garoo" specifically for the band.
