Biography

Richard Martin's illustrious career in the film industry began with a humble start as a receptionist at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) in the late 1930s. As his passion for acting grew, he started to appear in films while under contract with RKO in the early 1940s.

One of Martin's most notable creations was the charismatic character of "Chito Jose Gonzalez Bustamonte Rafferty", the Irish-Mexican comic sidekick of the iconic cowboy star Tim Holt. This memorable character first made its debut in the 1943 film Bombardier, a cinematic masterpiece that showcased Martin's exceptional acting skills.

Throughout the early 1950s, Martin played the lovable character of "Chito" in a remarkable series of 29 films, solidifying his reputation as a talented and versatile actor. His on-screen chemistry with co-star Tim Holt was undeniable, and their partnership became a hallmark of the Western genre.

Martin's personal life was equally as remarkable, as he married the talented actress Elaine Riley, who had the pleasure of sharing the screen with him in several films. As the years went by, Martin's dedication to his craft began to wane, and he eventually retired from the screen to pursue a new career in the insurance business in the early 1950s.

Despite his departure from the world of cinema, Richard Martin's enduring legacy as a beloved character actor continues to captivate audiences to this day, a testament to his remarkable talent and dedication to his craft.
