Richard Allen's illustrious career in the entertainment industry began with his early days as an actor with the esteemed Theater Co. of Boston in the mid-1960s. As his talents continued to flourish, he made the move to New York, where he donned multiple hats as a writer and actor for Channel One Underground TV. This pioneering venture would later evolve into the hit film, The Groove Tube, solidifying Allen's presence in the industry. Concurrently, he dedicated himself to crafting his own short films, which have since garnered international acclaim, showcasing at film festivals worldwide and even airing on PBS.
Throughout his career, Allen has received numerous accolades, including fellowships in film from the National Endowment for the Arts, a prestigious honor he has received not once, but twice. Additionally, he has been awarded a New York CAPS fellowship, further testament to his exceptional skill and dedication to his craft. Beyond his work in film, Allen has also ventured into the realm of literature, authoring the book Street Shots/Hooky NYC Photographs 1970s, a testament to his diverse range of creative pursuits.
Allen's feature film debut, Side By Each, premiered in 2008, and he has since gone on to complete his third feature, Poems Without Words, a testament to his unwavering passion for storytelling. Currently residing in Rhode Island, Allen continues to be actively involved in the film industry, serving as the driving force behind his production company, City Pound Productions.
