Ray Klein's hometown is Kansas City, Missouri, although he was born in Minot, North Dakota, during a tornado. As an Air Force brat, he moved around extensively, residing in seven different states by the age of twelve. His artistic journey began with playing the trumpet, which he studied from grade school through college. Additionally, he started playing bass guitar in high school and has continued to do so to this day.
Ray earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, and a Master of Music degree in Composition from Arizona State University. During his time in Arizona, he was introduced to improvisation with the Oxymoron'z under the direction of the late Louis Anthony Russo. This experience led him to meet and partner with Rob Twohy to form the comedy team, Twohy & Klein.
The duo toured their act at various dive bars across the United States before Ray settled in Los Angeles and pursued improv and sketch training at The Second City. He was a member of several sketch comedy groups, including Second Helping and Abe Lincoln Presents. Ray also received additional comedy training through The Harvey Lembeck Comedy Workshop, The Upright Citizens Brigade, and Fred Willard's The MOHOs.
In his personal life, Ray is married to the talented actress Cynthia Rube (Klein) and they share two cats, Dewey and Smudge. Furthermore, Ray plays bass guitar in a local Los Angeles-based bar-rock band called Smales, pronounced like the last name of Ted Knight's character in the movie Caddy Shack.
Ray is also a huge admirer of Jerry Lewis and collects his movies.
