Biography

Rachel Sorsa's journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from the University of Michigan's School of Literature and Science and School of Music. She then pursued her Master of Arts in Theatre at Michigan State University and later earned a doctoral degree in Theatre History and Criticism from the University of Texas.

As a young artist, Sorsa was heavily influenced by the playwrights of her time, with Dan Dietz being a significant inspiration. She moved to Atlanta, where she was discovered by Robert J. Farley, who not only became her mentor but also helped her establish herself as a theatre star.

Her early success in Atlanta led to over 20 successful productions in just four years, with a particularly close collaboration with playwright Topher Payne. Sorsa's talent and dedication to her craft soon took her to Los Angeles, where she formed her own band, the Rachel Sorsa Band, and released their debut album, SISU, which made a significant impact in the jazz scene.

The band maintained a residency at the renowned jazz club The Baked Potato and continued to build Sorsa's credits in the Los Angeles theatre, film, voiceover, and television scene. Her impressive work earned her numerous nominations, including three Ovation Awards, five BroadwayWorld Awards, and five Scenie Awards.

Sorsa has also made a name for herself in the world of premieres, working closely with playwrights Del Shores, Nick Salamone, and Boni B. Alvarez to bring new characters to life. Her voice work can be heard in multiple shows for Netflix, Amazon, MAX, and Disney +.

Beyond her artistic pursuits, Sorsa is dedicated to giving back to her community. She has worked tirelessly to teach theatre arts and music to children, particularly those who are underserved and at risk. This aspect of her career is her greatest accomplishment, and she continues to inspire and educate the next generation of artists.
