He was the third child and only son of King George V and Queen Mary, and the younger brother of King Edward VIII and King George VI.
On November 6, 1935, Duke of Gloucester married Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, a granddaughter of King Edward VII.
Throughout his life, he held various military and royal titles, including Commander-in-Chief of the British Army of the Rhine and Honorary Air Marshal of the Royal Air Force.
