From a young age, Prashanth's initial ambition was to pursue a career in medicine, with the intention of becoming a doctor. However, as time went on, he began to develop a new passion and eventually decided to follow in the footsteps of his father, T. Thiagarajan, by becoming an actor. Thiagarajan, a renowned producer, film director, and later Prashanth's manager, had set a notable example for his son to follow.
Prashanth made his cinematic debut at the tender age of 17 in the 1990 film "Vaikasi Pranthachu". It would take him several years to establish himself as a prominent figure in the Tamil film industry, but his breakthrough role arrived in 1993 with the film "Thief, Thief". Although it was a significant milestone in his career, it wasn't until 1998 that he achieved widespread recognition with his starring role in the critically acclaimed film "Jeans", directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Shankar.
