Pierre Niney was born on March 13, 1989, in the picturesque town of Boulogne-Billancourt, situated in the western suburbs of Paris, France. He began his illustrious acting career at the tender age of eleven, and by the time he turned twenty-one, he had already achieved a remarkable milestone, as he was appointed to the esteemed Comédie-Française troupe on October 16, 2010, making him the youngest resident of the troupe at the time.
Prior to joining the Comédie-Française, Niney had already gained experience in the industry, appearing in various TV films and short films. His breakthrough in cinema came with roles in LOL (Laughing Out Loud) (2008),Army of Crime (2009),and Romantics Anonymous (2010). His outstanding performance in the latter earned him the opportunity to play the iconic fashion designer Yves Saint-Laurent in the biopic directed by Jalil Lespert. For this role, Niney received the prestigious Patrick Dewaere prize and the César for best actor, becoming the youngest actor to win this award.
Niney's tenure at the Comédie-Française came to an end on January 15, 2015. The same year, he starred in the thrilling film A Perfect Man (2015). In 2016, he took on the lead role in Frantz (2016),directed by François Ozon, and played Philippe Cousteau in The Odyssey (2016),a biopic based on the life of French Commander Jacques-Yves Cousteau.
