Pierre Barrera, a Native American filmmaker and actor of Klamath/Lakota descent, hails from the Rosebud Indian Reservation, where he was born and raised, and currently resides in the state of New Mexico. Throughout his career, he has directed a total of six short films, including the critically acclaimed "The Burden Carriers" and "Whiskey Flats", showcasing his exceptional storytelling abilities.
In addition to his work as a director, Pierre has also made a notable impact as an actor, having appeared in a range of films such as "In the Valley of Elah" and "Swing Vote", demonstrating his versatility and talent in front of the camera.
Pierre's passion for filmmaking was fostered through his attendance at the Institute of American Indian Arts Film and Television Workshop in 2004, where he honed his skills and developed his craft. His dedication to his art form was further recognized when he received the 2005 ABC/Disney grant scholarship for his writing of "The Mystic".
Furthermore, Pierre has had the distinction of being the National Geographic "All Roads" Director's Mentor for the New Mexico Governor's Cup Film Benito's Gift, a testament to his expertise and leadership in the film industry. With a lifelong passion for filmmaking, Pierre is committed to continuing to create movies that captivate and inspire audiences for years to come.
