Biography

Philippe Cousteau was born in Santa Monica, California, and spent his childhood between France and the United States. He earned a Master's degree in History from St. Andrews University in Scotland.

After university, Philippe followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, becoming a multiple Emmy-nominated TV host and producer, author, speaker, and social entrepreneur.

Philippe's television career began in 2007 when he co-hosted the documentary "Ocean's Deadliest" with Steve Irwin. He then became the Chief Ocean Correspondent for the Animal Planet Channel, working on various ocean-focused documentary programs, including "Ocean's Deadliest" and "Springwatch".

In 2009, Philippe co-hosted the Discovery Channel/BBC co-production "Oceans", which explored the state of the world's oceans and major seas. He later served as the Chief Ocean Correspondent for Planet Green, hosting a television series and "Blue" in 2010.

Philippe covered the BP Gulf Oil Spill with ABC's "Good Morning America" and CNN, and was the first person to scuba dive live on television into the spill to demonstrate the impacts of chemical dispersants. He was a Special Correspondent for CNN International and the host of "Going Green" from 2010 to 2014, exploring critical conservation issues around the world.

Philippe has been the host and executive producer of the Emmy-nominated "Awesome Planet" since 2014, a television series syndicated on Fox and Hulu. He has also hosted "Expedition Sumatra" for CNN in 2013, exploring the deforestation crisis in Sumatra, Indonesia.

In addition to his television work, Philippe has collaborated with his wife Ashlan on several projects, including "Nuclear Sharks" for Discovery's Shark Week and "Treasures of the Terai" for Takepart.com, exploring tiger and rhino conservation in Nepal.

Philippe and Ashlan are set to premiere their new series "Caribbean Pirate Treasure" on The Travel Channel in August 2017, which follows their travels around the Caribbean exploring the rich and colorful mysteries and histories of pirates, explorers, and adventurers.

As an author, Philippe's latest children's book "Follow the Moon Home" was chosen for the prestigious Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List. He has also co-written two books, "Going Blue" and "Make a Splash", which have won multiple awards.

Philippe's conservation efforts focus on solving global social and environmental problems. He founded EarthEcho International in 2004, a leading environmental education organization dedicated to inspiring youth to take action for a sustainable planet.

Philippe is also a social entrepreneur and has partnered with AdvisorShares Investments on the impact investment fund the Global Echo ETF (NYSE:GIVE). A percentage of the fund's management fees support philanthropic projects around the world.

As a frequent speaker, Philippe has hosted and keynoted events for the United Nations, Harvard University, USC, SXSW, the Society of Environmental Journalists, and many more. He has testified before Congress several times and recently presented at TEDx Pennsylvania Ave.

Philippe and his wife Ashlan reside in Los Angeles, California.
