Phil's journey in the film industry began while attending McGill University, where he started directing and producing music videos for local acts. As his work gained recognition for its originality, Phil was approached by numerous artists and labels to direct music videos. In 2001, he founded Philms Inc. and transitioned to commercials, eventually moving into feature filmmaking.
Phil collaborated with writing partner Myles Hainsworth to create the script for Summer, which he directed in the summer of 2002. His second feature, Hatley High, was released a year later and won the Best Director award at the US Comedy Arts Festival in 2005, along with the Best Screenplay award.
Phil's creative endeavors continued with the creation of the festival, an original television series for the Independent Film Channel. The show premiered on August 19th, 2005, and was the first original scripted live-action series for IFC. Phil not only served as the show's creator but also as head writer, director, and co-editor.
Due to its critical and ratings success, IFC ordered a second season spin-off, titled the business, an eight-episode comedy series starring Kathleen Robertson. The show premiered on August 4th, 2006, and Phil again served as the show's creator, head writer, director, and co-editor.
Phil's third feature film, Prom Wars, was released in October 2006. The teen comedy revolves around a war between rival boys' private schools, with the winners granted exclusive rights to the girls as prom dates. The film stars Alia Shawkat and Raviv Ullman.
Phil is currently preparing the third season of his IFC show, the business, for IFC. The series will premiere on August 17th, 2007, and Phil will again serve as creator, head writer, director, and co-editor.
