Petra Buckova is an actress known for her wild temperament and versatility in playing a wide range of roles, from slapstick comedy to tragedy. Born in the South Bohemian town of Tabor, she grew up to be 174 centimeters tall, which she deemed satisfactory and left home to pursue her acting career.
Petra was selected to study acting at the Janacek Academy of Performing Arts (JAMU) in her first year of application, despite being unable to fit in the door initially. She lost 10 kilograms during her first semester by engaging in singing, acrobatics, ballet, and karate, eventually transforming into the shape she is today.
A graduate of the PADI diving course, Petra is not afraid to dive deep into the characters she portrays. She has starred in the mini-series "Jitrni zare" (Morning Glow) and the streaming thriller "#martyisdead", which became the first-ever Czech series to win an International Emmy.
Petra has also appeared in numerous Czech TV series and films, including "Uzly a pomerance" (Scent of Orange),as well as in international productions such as "Haunted" (Netflix),"Carnival Row" (Amazon),and "The Wheel of Time". She has mastered several languages and often uses them in her work.
After completing her studies at JAMU, Petra became an ensemble member of various high-profile theaters, including the Petr Bezruc Theatre in Ostrava and the Goose on a String Theatre in Brno. She is currently a member of the Balustrade Theatre in Prague, where she has starred in productions such as "Persony" (Personas) based on the works of Ingmar Bergman.
Petra has also recorded audio books, including "Lady Chatterley's Lover" (D. H. Lawrence),"Winesburg, Ohio" (S. Anderson),and "The Hours" (M. Cunningham). She has been nominated twice for the Neviditelný herec (Invisible Actor) award, which recognizes excellence in radio acting.
Petra's work method is empathy, which allows her to connect with others and bring depth to her characters. She has also spent twelve years as part of the Czech team of hospital clowns, a role that requires a high level of empathy.
