Percy Edward Edwards, a native of Suffolk, was enchanted by the wild creatures of his childhood surroundings, and his remarkable ability to mimic them emerged as a captivating party trick from the tender age of 12.
His initial foray into broadcasting occurred in 1930, when he featured in the BBC radio series "Vaudeville". Subsequently, he made numerous broadcasts, amassing hundreds of appearances, until his official retirement in 1989.
As a household name, Percy Edwards rose to fame following his impressive animal imitations in the popular radio shows "Ray's a Laugh" with Ted Ray and "Life of Bliss". Later, he remained in constant demand from television and film companies, capitalizing on his unique talent.
In reality, Percy Edwards was a distinguished ornithologist, although he preferred to describe himself as an entertainer. He possessed the remarkable ability to accurately imitate over 600 bird species, in addition to many other animal sounds.
Throughout his illustrious career, Percy Edwards lent his talents to various film and television productions, including his iconic roles as the whales in "Orca" (1977),the Reindeer in "Santa Claus" (1985),and the voice of the Alien in "Alien" (1979).
