Penny Orloff, a multifaceted individual with a storied career, began as a working actor/dancer in Los Angeles before securing a prestigious Juilliard scholarship, which led her to New York. There, she had the opportunity to work with esteemed directors such as Harold Prince and Joseph Papp, and showcased her vocal talents by singing over 20 principal soprano roles for the New York City Opera under the guidance of Julius Rudel and Beverly Sills.
Throughout her 50+ year career, Orloff has had the privilege of starring in over 100 productions both on and off Broadway, regionally, and on tour. One of her notable solo shows, "Jewish Thighs on Broadway," which was based on her novel of the same name and available on Amazon.com, enjoyed a successful off-Broadway run in 2005 and toured the United States for a decade.
As she entered a new phase of her career, Orloff began to capitalize on her unique presence, acting in a variety of interesting shorts, indie, and feature films since 2012. Her silver-white hair and Botox-free face, apparently, are in short supply in Los Angeles, allowing her to stand out in the competitive film industry.
In addition to her acting career, Orloff is an arts journalist, providing reviews of theatre, symphony, dance, and chamber music for various print and online outlets. She is also a regular contributor to the Chicken Soup for the Soul franchise and has worked as an art therapist at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility since 2007.
