Paul South is a highly acclaimed and accomplished independent filmmaker, primarily specializing in the genres of horror and suspense. His feature film, "Berdella", made a significant impact when it premiered in 2009, with back-to-back sold-out screenings at the iconic Screenland Theater in Kansas City, Missouri.
The Pitch KC published a vibrant review of South's inaugural film, praising the sense of hometown pride that permeated the production. This initial success was followed by the creation of the erotic slasher film "House of the White Lotus" in the spring of 2013, and the supernatural crime drama "Guilty" the following year, which was selected to showcase at the Kansas City FilmFest International.
South's versatility as a filmmaker was further demonstrated with the documentary "Roasting KC", which brought a unique perspective to the story of the notorious graffiti artists Roast. This documentary won both First Place and Audience Choice awards at the Independent Film Coalition's Every Picture Tells a Story screening.
In the winter of 2021, South embarked on an ambitious project, the Giallo Trilogy, a three-part film series paying homage to the Italian slasher movies of the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. Shot entirely on Super8mm film using equipment from the era, the trilogy is a testament to South's dedication to his craft. The first installment, "The Bellman", took First Place at the Haunted Garage Film Festival, and the second film, "Baggage", is currently in post-production as of the winter of 2022.
