Biography

Paul Hallam is a multifaceted artist and writer, with a diverse range of creative endeavors to his name. His screenwriting credits include A Kind of English, Caught Looking, Nighthawks, Strip Jack Naked, and Young Soul Rebels, all of which have been recognized for their unique perspectives and storytelling.

In addition to his screenwriting work, Hallam has also written a play, The Dish, which has been performed in London, New York, and Toronto. The play was later adapted into a BBC Radio 4 broadcast in 1998.

Hallam's literary pursuits have resulted in the publication of his first book, The Book of Sodom, by Verso. A chapter from the book was featured in The Postmodern Bible Reader, published by Blackwell in 2001. He is currently working on a second book, which explores the themes of sex and time.

His Briefplay series, which examines the complex relationships between prostitutes and clients, has been presented in various forms, including performance, video, and publication. Hallam is also involved in the Bookmobile project, a multifaceted art/design research initiative.

In addition to his creative work, Hallam has also contributed essays to various publications. His essay, If You Look at It Long Enough, explores the topic of pornography and was published in The Journal of Homosexuality. For the Asking, an essay on the promise of prostitution, was published in The Journal of Sexuality and Culture.

Hallam has also been involved in various film projects, including Soho and King's Cross, both of which appear on the Second Run DVD of Strip Jack Naked. Nighthawks Revisited, a new film directed by Paul Nightingale and presented by Matt Lucas, appears on the Nighthawks DVD.

Throughout his career, Hallam has been recognized for his innovative approach to storytelling and his ability to explore complex themes in a unique and engaging way. He has held the position of Writer in Residence at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, University of the Arts, London, and continues to teach at Kingston University.

Currently, Hallam divides his time between Istanbul and London, where he is working on new performance and film projects.
