Biography

Noriyuki Morita, a prolific and beloved Asian-American actor, made a lasting impact on the entertainment industry as the iconic Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid (1984) franchise. His remarkable performance as the wise and wonderful mentor earned him a special place in the hearts of millions of adults and children alike. Morita's impressive career spanned over four decades, during which he effortlessly transitioned from stand-up comedy to on-screen appearances, showcasing his remarkable adaptability and versatility.

Morita's early beginnings as a stand-up comedian, known as the Hip Nip, paved the way for his foray into the world of film and television. He made his on-screen debut in Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967) and quickly gained recognition for his small but memorable roles in comedy films such as The Shakiest Gun in the West (1968) and Evil Roy Slade (1972). His talent for playing quirky characters was further showcased in popular television series like Sanford and Son (1972) and M*A*S*H (1972).

Morita's breakthrough role as Matsho "Arnold" Takahashi in the hit sitcom Happy Days (1974) cemented his status as a sought-after character actor. He went on to play the lead in his own police drama Ohara (1987) and made guest appearances in high-profile television series such as Magnum, P.I. (1980),Murder, She Wrote (1984),Baywatch (1989),and The Hughleys (1998).
