Nigel Hamer was born in Atikokin, Ontario, known as the "Canoeing Capital of the World". He is a graduate of Ryerson Theatre School in Toronto, where he honed his acting skills. After completing his training, he appeared in numerous leading roles on stage and screen.
He was part of the legendary Stratford Theatre Festival Company, where he starred in various productions, including As You Like It, Romeo & Juliet, Journey's End, and more. He also played Bertram in Alls Well That Ends Well, Maurice Duclois in Fallen Angels, and Harry the Horse in Guys and Dolls.
In Toronto, he took on roles such as Demetrius in Midsummer Nights Dream for CanStage, Don Pedro in Much Ado About Nothing at Theatre By The Bay, and Petruchio in his Award-winning performance in Taming Of The Shrew at Bathurst Street Theatre.
Other notable theatre credits include Max in the long-running Mirvish Production of the Sound of Music at the Princess of Wales theatre, Genscher in Democracy at the Tarragon Theatre, Pedro in Man of La Mancha at Theatre Aquarius, Warren Ives in Cantorial, and Jeff in Brigadoon at the Limelight Dinner Theatre.
Mr. Hamer is also recognized for his extensive regional theatre work, including performances in Aladdin, Cash on Delivery, Whose Under Where, and The Great Gatsby.
Most people, however, know Nigel Hamer for his extensive TV/Film career, which includes principle roles in series like Reign, Orphan Black, Blue Murder, and Suits. He has also worked on CBC and Alliance Film projects, including Celine, In A Heartbeat, Me and My Shadows, Parkland, and Nothing Too Good For A Cowboy.
Nigel Hamer is best known for his recurring roles as Jeff Isaacs in Degrassi The Next Generation and Pronto's father in Radio Free Roscoe. He has also appeared in numerous movies of the week, including The Note, All Hat, Bugs, and Little Brother.
Recent credits include guest starring roles on Good Witch, Really Me, Wingin' It, and Murdoch Myssteries. He has also taken on lead roles in Same Time Next Year and Plaza Suite at the Upper Canada Playhouse and Orillia Opera House.
