Biography

At the tender age of 19, Pablo López embarked on an illustrious filmmaking journey by writing and directing his debut feature film, "Promedio Rojo", a teen comedy that gained widespread acclaim, including a glowing endorsement from the renowned Quentin Tarantino, who dubbed it "The funniest movie of the year". This initial success led to "Promedio Rojo" becoming a box-office smash in Chile, with subsequent selections at esteemed film festivals such as Tokyo, SXSW, and the LA Film Festival.

López's subsequent feature, the sci-fi comedy "Santos", released in 2008, was produced by Telecinco Cinema, the same production company behind critically acclaimed films like "Pan's Labyrinth" and "The Orphanage". The film received praise from the visionary Alejandro Jodorowsky and went on to win the Special Jury Prize at Fantastic Fest.

In 2010, López wrote and directed the highest-grossing Chilean film of the year, "Que Pena tu vida", a romantic comedy that inspired a successful trilogy, including "Que pena tu boda" (2011) and "Que pena tu familia" (2012),which premiered at SXSW in 2011.

López's foray into English-language filmmaking came with "Aftershock" in 2013, a production of his company Sobras Int., starring the accomplished Eli Roth. The film made its debut at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival and was subsequently released by Dimension Films.

The same year, López co-wrote and produced Eli Roth's "The Green Inferno", a critically acclaimed film selected at Sundance, as well as the vampire thriller "The Stranger", directed by his co-writer Guillermo Amoedo, which premiered at Fantastic Fest 13.

López's impressive resume also includes directing and writing "Mis Peores Amigos", the sequel to his first film "Promedio Rojo", released in 2013. He co-wrote, produced, and presented the highest-grossing Chilean film of 2014, "Fuerzas Especiales", and went on to direct and write the smash hit comedy "Sin Filtro" in 2016, which is currently being remade in 11 countries, including China, Mexico, and India.

In 2017, López will release two comedies, "Hazlo como hombre" and "No estoy loca", both of which he directed. Additionally, he founded the label Purgatorio with his production partner Miguel Asensio Llamas to produce genre films with Latin elements, with "Madre", directed by Aaron Burns, serving as the inaugural project.
