Biography

Nick Cassavetes, the son of esteemed actress Gena Rowlands and Greek-American actor and film director John Cassavetes, was born in the vibrant city of New York. As a child, he had the privilege of appearing in two of his father's films, Husbands (1970) and A Woman Under the Influence (1974),which undoubtedly had a profound impact on his future endeavors.

Despite being surrounded by the film industry from a young age, Cassavetes initially decided not to pursue a career in the field. Instead, he attended Syracuse University on a basketball scholarship, where he initially focused on his athletic aspirations. However, an injury effectively ended his basketball career, and he was forced to reassess his goals. He then decided to attend his parents' alma mater, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, where he could nurture his passion for acting.

Throughout his career, Cassavetes has appeared in a wide range of films, including Face/Off (1997),The Wraith (1986),Life (1999),Class of 1999 II: The Substitute (1994),Backstreet Dreams (1990),and The Astronaut's Wife (1999),among others. He has also ventured into directing, helming films such as John Q (2002),Alpha Dog (2006),She's So Lovely (1997),Unhook the Stars (1996),The Notebook (2004),and My Sister's Keeper (2009). Additionally, he has adapted screenplays, including the critically acclaimed Blow (2001),and written dialogue for notable projects, such as the Justin Timberlake music video, "What Goes Around... Comes Around".

In his personal life, Cassavetes has been married twice. His first marriage was to Isabelle Rafalovich in 1985, with whom he had two daughters, Virginia Cassavetes (born 1986) and Sasha Cassavetes (born 1988),before divorcing. He then married Heather Wahlquist (Heather "Queenie" Wahlquist),who has appeared in several of his films, including The Notebook (2004),where she played the role of Sara, a secondary character and best friend to the female lead Allie Hamilton, portrayed by Rachel McAdams. The movie is notable for being a family project, as Cassavetes's own mother, Gena Rowlands, appears as the older, married Allie Calhoun.
