Nefise Özkal Lorentzen is a Turkish-Norwegian writer, filmmaker, and producer who currently resides in Oslo, Norway.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Bosphorus University in Istanbul, Turkey, and a Master of Arts degree in Media and Communication from the University of Oslo, Norway.
Throughout her career, which spans over two decades, Nefise has produced and directed several documentaries that have sparked controversy and debate, particularly in regards to Islam.
Her dedication to LGBTQ people and human rights activism through her films has earned her recognition as one of the top 10 immigrant role models in Norway.
Nefise has produced a trilogy of films, including "Gender Me" (2008),"A Balloon for Allah" (2011),and "ManIslam" (2014),which aim to bring to light the untold stories of marginalized communities through public visibility.
Her films have received numerous awards and nominations, and have premiered at several prestigious film festivals, including the IDFA, the Rhode Island Film Festival, the Göteborg Film Festival, and more.
Nefise was also nominated for the History Makers Award in New York City.
In addition to her filmmaking work, Nefise has been involved in various workshops and collaborations with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to promote gender activism through film.
Her ultimate goal is to create a world where gender segregation and violence against women are a distant memory, and she continues to work towards this vision through her films and advocacy efforts.
