Hilal Nebahat Çehre is a Turkish actress, singer, and model of Laz and Georgian descent. Born as the only daughter of a family of four, she lost her father at a young age and immigrated to Istanbul with her family at the age of five.
She started her education at Mimarsinan Primary School in Istanbul and later attended the Evening Girls' Art School for five years. After graduating, she worked as a secretary in a knitting factory.
In 1959, she was chosen as the first runner-up in the Turkey Beauty Contest organized by the Journalists Association and became Miss Turkey 1960. She represented Turkey at the Miss World Contest held in London and worked as a photo model and model for a while.
She began her acting career on stage in the Children's Department of the Istanbul City Theater in 1961 and started her film career with the movie Wild Gülüm, directed by Ümit Utku, in the same year. She starred in several films between 1964 and 1968 with Yilmaz Güney, with whom she shared the leading role for the first time in Kamali Zeybek.
The couple got married on January 30, 1967, but divorced in 1968. Çehre moved away from cinema during the sex movie craze that started in Turkish cinema in the 1970s and worked as a singer after studying for two years. She received support from Zeki Müren in her stage life.
After being engaged for six years, she married national basketball player Yavuz Demir in 1976, but this marriage ended in divorce in 1979. Çehre, who moved away from the stage while she was married, did decoration and fashion-related work. After her divorce, she returned to stage life and continued singing until 1991. Her song "Büklüm Büklüm", composed by Sezen Aksu, became popular.
Çehre started acting again in 2004, appearing in the television series Haziran Gecesi. She became famous with the character Firdevs Yöreoglu, whom she played in the TV series "Ask-i Memnu", adapted from Halit Ziya Usakligil's novel of the same name.
Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards and honors, including the 42nd Golden Orange Film Festival Lifetime Honorary Award (2005),11th International Eskisehir Film Festival Honorary Award (2009),and 18th Golden Boll Film Festival Lifetime Honorary Award (2011),as well as the Cinema Writers Association (SiYAD) Awards 2014 Honorary Award and the 34th Istanbul Film Festival Honorary Award (2015).
