Nathan A. Jacobs, Ph.D., is a multi-talented individual who has transitioned from being an artist to a scholar to a writer, producer, and director. His most recent work includes co-writing the pilot and season finale of the Amazon Studios Original series, House of David, and serving as Co-Executive Producer.
Jacobs began his career as a fine artist, trained at the prestigious Maryland Institute College of Art. However, his insatiable curiosity about big questions led him to pursue additional degrees in philosophy and religion. To support himself during his studies, he worked in the video game industry, utilizing his artistic skills for concept art, character design, storyboards, CGI, and cut scenes.
After years of working as a professor of philosophy and religion, publishing award-winning and influential books and articles, Jacobs' experiences in the video game industry and his passion for art and ideas converged in his transition to filmmaking. He bootstrapped a short film starring Lana Wood, followed by the feature comedy Killing Poe (2016) and the feature documentary Becoming Truly Human (2017),both of which he wrote and directed.
As Jacobs began development on his third feature, a paranormal thriller, his work attracted the attention of studios and industry insiders, leading to a first-look deal with The Wonder Project, a new streaming platform initiated by Lionsgate, Starz, and Kingdom Story Company, which has since partnered with Amazon Studios. Jacobs was immediately brought into Wonder's flagship show, the Amazon Studios Original series, House of David, where he worked as a writer and Co-Executive Producer across seasons 1 and 2.
