Nathalie Álvarez Mesén is a multifaceted Costa Rican-Swedish creative force, exceling as both a screenwriter and director. Her inaugural feature film, CLARA SOLA, made a splash at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 2021, premiering in the coveted Director's Fortnight section.
Prior to embarking on her cinematic journey, Nathalie honed her skills in physical theater in her native Costa Rica. She subsequently pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Mime Acting at the esteemed Stockholm University of the Arts in Sweden. Her academic trajectory continued with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Film Directing/Screenwriting from Columbia University's Graduate Film Program in New York City.
As a renowned talent, Nathalie has been recognized for her exceptional work at various esteemed film festivals. She is an alumna of the Berlinale Talents, TIFF Filmmaker Lab, and NYFF Artist Academy, boasting an impressive portfolio of short films that have been showcased globally. Notably, her short film, FILIP, took home the Best Film Under 15 Minutes award at the 2016 Palm Springs Shortfest, while ASUNDER was featured at the 2016 Telluride Film Festival.
Furthermore, Nathalie co-authored ENTRE TÚ Y MILAGROS, which won the prestigious Orizzonti Award for Best Short at the 2020 Venice Film Festival. Currently, she is developing her sophomore feature, THE WOLF WILL TEAR YOUR IMMACULATE HANDS, as part of the Torino ScriptLab 2021.
