Nabila Lotfy is a renowned Lebanese actor and documentary filmmaker, whose life has been deeply rooted in Egypt. Her academic journey began at the American University in Cairo in 1953, where she was unfortunately dismissed due to her prominent political activism. Undeterred, she relocated to Cairo to pursue her passion for the arts at the Faculty of Arts, before enrolling in the prestigious High Institute of Cinema in 1960. After dedicating herself to her studies, Nabila Lotfy graduated as a film director in 1964, becoming one of the first graduates of the esteemed institution.
Her professional career commenced as an assistant director in numerous feature films, before gradually shifting her focus towards directing documentary films. Her exceptional talent and dedication to her craft earned her recognition as one of the founders of the New Cinema Group in 1986. Additionally, she collaborated with the Experimental Film Centre, working alongside the renowned filmmaker Shady Abdel Salam. Nabila Lotfy's expertise and knowledge of cinema were further showcased through her written articles on the subject, as well as her membership in the Arab Documentary Filmmakers Guild.
Apart from her work behind the camera, Nabila Lotfy has also made a mark as an actress, appearing in notable films such as Daoud Abdel Sayed's "Rasa'el Elbahr" (Messages of the Sea),Ibrahim El Batout's "Ein Shams", and in the television series "Elkhawaga Abdel Qader". Her impressive range as an actress is also demonstrated through her appearance in the short film "Zeyara Yawmeya" (Daily Visit).
