Myles Kane is a renowned documentary filmmaker and editor, celebrated for his exceptional work on feature films and critically acclaimed television series. His extensive portfolio includes directing the Netflix feature films "Voyeur" and "Journey to Planet X", as well as the HBO series "I'll Be Gone in the Dark", executive produced by Liz Garbus and Patton Oswalt. His films have garnered widespread recognition, showcasing at esteemed festivals such as The Tribeca Film Festival, The New York Film Festival, and SXSW.
As a filmmaker, Myles has created numerous documentary shorts, including "We Will Live Again", which chronicles the extraordinary operations of the Cryonics Institute, and the ESPN 30 for 30 short "An Immortal Man", exploring the enigmatic afterlife of baseball legend Ted Williams.
In his capacity as an editor, Myles has contributed to the Emmy-nominated series "Captive Audience" and the Netflix series "Crime Scene: The Texas Killing Fields". His editing credits also include documentary features such as "We are Wizards", a film about Harry Potter fan bands, "Made in India", exploring the surrogate birthing network between the US and India, and "Ask the Sexpert", a documentary about an Indian sex advice columnist defying social norms.
Myles co-founded the Brooklyn Underground Film Festival with fellow director Josh Koury, where he showcased shorts and features from emerging filmmakers, including the Duplass Brothers, and promoted the work of outsider artists, such as the subjects of his own film "Journey to Planet X".
Prior to his film career, Myles worked as a video producer for The New Yorker, where he shot, directed, and edited documentary shorts and scripted content, and created the original series "The Cartoon Lounge". He also spent several years as a producer and editor for the BBC, traveling the world and filming with "Talking Movies" host Tom Brook. During this time, he documented the film school created by Mira Nair in Uganda, which provides training and support for African filmmakers.
Beyond his work in film, Myles is a musician and experimental video maker. For many years, he performed alongside Bridget Everett, Kenny Mellman, and Neal Medlyn at the popular Joe's Pub show "Our Hit Parade", where he live-edited archival mash-up videos set to music.
