Biography

Muj was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England in 1984, and his childhood was marked by frequent moves as his family settled in Derby, Derbyshire, England in the early 1990s.

Pursuing his passion for acting, Muj auditioned for and was accepted into the National Youth Theatre, while still gaining experience at University. Upon graduating, he won a scholarship and went on to train at the British American Drama Academy, where he had the opportunity to play iconic roles such as Caesar in William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and the titular character in Shakespeare's Othello.

Muj furthered his skills with Stage Combat and took on minor roles, marking the beginning of his professional career. He appeared in BBC's Hustle in 2004, and soon after landed the role of 'Skinny Mo' in Bonded by Blood in 2010.

His experience on Bonded by Blood landed him the role of 'Sheikh Ali Kharma' alongside 'Bob Hoskin (I)' in the British film Outside Bet in 2012. He then went on to play the starring role of 'Saleh' in a special episode of Casualty, titled Casualty: Under Fire.

Muj's desire to expand his career led him to briefly relocate to Toronto, Canada, where he provided voice-over work for The History Channel's production of Miracles Decoded in 2014. Upon returning to the UK, he starred in a short film titled Freeze Frame and later appeared as Haroon Latif in an episode of Citizen Khan in 2012.

He then went on to appear as Doctor Collins in Songbird in 2018 and was later cast as the lovable Bilal, one of the lead characters in BBC3's new comedy series Coconut in 2017. The same year, he was Highly Commended by Faber & Faber for his writing on his Graphic Novel 'Maghrib.'

Muj's writing sparked a desire to create more, and he developed an initial idea for a novel into a TV series. Along with his writing partner Harrie Hayes, they produced a script that attracted the attention of a BAFTA-winning director, Declan Lowney. Developing the project together has been a defining moment in Muj's life and opened him up to the world of screenwriting.

As Muj focused on his writing, he had greatly improved and grown as an artist, returning to the first panel of his comic to reinvigorate it with a new lease of life. He was again Highly Commended, this time for his illustrations in the 2019 Faber & Faber Fab Prize.
